The function password_verify(); takes two parameters; a non-hashed input, and a stored hash to compare it to. It hashes the non-hashed input automatically to compared it to the stored version. @Craig, even if I force them to change their password at login, that still doesn't guarantee that they have logged in a week or a month later; I need a way to check from the command line. Forced password change can even lock out remote users if Network Level Authentication is enabled. Just take a look at the PHP documentation regarding to password_verify and password_hash. Just save the password with password_hash(). that should store the hash in the DB. And to verify, you just compare the hash with the user input with password_verify.
